fresh sushi rolls !

Yesterday, we went to the fish markets in Sydney. The plan was to make our own sushi and I showed A. , C. and S. how to roll :) We had the fresh fish (tuna, salmon, and kingfish), the nori, pineapple, little orange kaviar, cucumber, fried egg, avocado, tinned tuna....yummie!
For their first sushi, it was remarkable !!!
We didn not even have one roll which fell apart ! remarkable.

les mis and a cyclone.

Today is a very rainy day, there is a ciclone in Queensland, hitting nothern New South Wales at the moment, so we are getting a lot of rain and wind as well, and it is quite cold so I am very happy to have brought a wolly jumper even though a lot of people told me "this is unnecessary". We went to see the film "Les Miserables".
A very moving, very strong, very depictive and I would say very expensive film. Hugh Jackman (who is actually a good friend of a cousin of mine who I met on the Macpherson dinner), did a very good job, not only acting, but surprisingly, also singing !
But, for me, it wasn't Hugh or Eddie Redmayne who I liked best, but this guy you can see below, who only played a little role actually. He was called Grantaire and was part of the student movement and a good friend of Enjoras and Marius(Eddie). He only appeared a couple of times, but as you know, some faces just stay in your mind even though you've only seen them for a second or so...anyway, he's just an actor, so let's get over it.

Macpherson family dinner !

pavlova.
I came to know a lot of lovely new people and of course, some lovely delicious new food !
first, there was the pavlova, basically made out of eggwhite with whipped cream on top. Then you put on fruit or berries or whatever you like !
Then, there were the Lamingtons. The husband E. of my great aunt, a very funny person :) showed me how to prepare (or preparate) them: you cut out a small square bit out of the upper middle of the Lamington, take it out and put some whipped cream in it, then put the cut out part back.
Then, after some hesitation from my part and some encouragement from E.'s part ( he used to be a basketball trainer so he knew how to get me to do it) I ate the whole thing in one go !
There was cream all around my face after that, but I am not going to show you pictures of that, of course. ^^

this cutie left me the last bit of Lamington ! How nice of her.

Then there were the TimTams:
But, you'll need a coffee to do what I did:

First, you bite off one end of the biccie, then you turn it around and bite off the corner of the other end.
Next, you dunk it into your coffee and suck on the bit off corner. The coffee flows through the middle of the TimTam which is only a filling, and the moment the coffee touchers your lips you know the biscuit has been soaked in coffee and is about to melt, you stick the whole thing in your mouth. and eat it.
As the coffee is very hot, the chocolate melts away aswell and it can end in quite a mess. Anyway, its worth it, what a delicious meal ! (I ate too much of course... ): )

What an exciting day, very interesting, but also quite intense, as I still had quite a hangover from Australia Day...
(even though I never really get hangovers, this time I did.)

australia day !

what a funny thing: grandma and grandchild having the same taste in shoes, or at least the colour !
:)
I noticed that when we left for a small adventure: going to the country club and having lunch and a coffee.
then, on the 26. we went to the coast to celebrate Autralia Day, something like the 1. August in Switzerland.
My Auntie gave me a top with the Australian flag printed on it and I wore it the whole evening, except for when I went to the beach and played in the surf.
We went to stay at my aunts friends house, which is, as you can see, right on the coast.
How wonderful to spend the evening with good food, nice people, and cold beer (I was trying my best to be like an ozzie haha) and of course, the ocean with the rumbling waves and crashing water.
And what is, as I heard a very ozzie thing is to get a sunburn on Australia Day. Which I did. a little. not on purpose.
It wasn't that bad, but I had to have AloeVera soothing cream anyway. :)
Happy Australia Day!!

what a cutie.
